How to live with Fibromyalgia

My intention with this article is to help people feel better and manage their life with Fibromyalgia.

I was diagnosed 10 years ago after living with pain for two and a half years. Getting up from a bed and doing simple tasks was very hard. The fatigue, traveling pain, joint pain, brain fog... the list can go on. I have always been a very active person and being pushed in a wheelchair when going to the supermarket was unbelievably difficult to accept. I used to have a stick when walking short distances as I was not able to walk for more than 100 meters.

I have done different things to cope, such as going to a Fibromyalgia group, trying massage, acupuncture, different diet, medicines and many others. The problem I encountered, was that many of the things I was trying, I could not afford to continue doing it due to a lack of funds. Medicines were no good as they gave me weird side effects.

Only recently a doctor explained to me how I got this condition. He told me that the body needs time to heal from stressful situations and asked me if I had stress before I discover I had Fibromyalgia. Yes, I had three years of hell! I had 3 mini hysterectomies, I got divorced,  I had to cope with my Dad's death and my second husband's cancer. I didn't have time to heal from all this and in such a short amount of time.

I am not a person that accepts things easily and I think this motivated me to search for an answer. After researching nonstop, I found a book that explained allergies with food.  To feel better, I would have to change my diet. It was revealed to me that if you cut all dairy from your diet, you would feel less pain and more energetic. This perhaps doesn't work for everybody, however, it worked for me.

Cutting dairy was difficult in 2008 as nobody used to have Soya or Almond milk in cafes or restaurants. After only three days without it, I had a splurge of energy that made me feel really good. I did not realize that my pain was gone, I was just happy to feel good, I just thought I was on a good day. My husband came home and saw me cleaning the kitchen cupboards and was bewildered by the scene! He immediately said, "not having milk is helping you"!

I was doing gentle exercise and having no dairy. I started to feel better even though I still had fatigue, brain fog, and a light pain. Cutting dairy gave a bit of my life back and allowed me to dream of having a better life. I managed to go to Uni, move to London, work and now I am doing a Masters. I am doing all this without a partner.

I wanted to share this with you because I know how much you are probably suffering and giving back is a good thing for the soul.  I hope the information I gave you will help you to have a more fulfilling life.
